Multi-million euro scheme to build second bridge for Wexford town remains ‘way down the line’
Wexford PeopleSuch is the level of congestion on Wexford Bridge during peak hours that thoughts have turned to building a new bridge to help alleviate tailbacks. However, at the September meeting of Wexford County Council (WCC) any hope that a second bridge for the town was imminent were immediately dashed.
Responding to a query from Cllr Robbie Staples, director of services Eamonn Hore said the “multi-million scheme” to construct a new bridge in Wexford remained “way down the line”.
Scaling back his ambitions, Cllr Staples then asked about the availability of machinery to assist road users during the winter months.
“Do we have enough funds to salt and grit the rural roads for the winter months, could we get funding from Transport Infrastructure Ireland to purchase a road gritter?” he asked.
“TII has not confirmed any additional funding for salting and gritting, we will probably have to fund it ourselves,” replied Mr Hore.
