Litterers identified by CCTV in Wexford should receive a ‘gentle warning’ on future conduct
Wexford PeopleDespite the culprits being identified via CCTV there are no plans to name and shame those responsible for leaving bags of clothes at the Bring Centre in Marshalstown. Instead, local councillor Pat Kehoe believes a “gentle reminder” would help deter repeat offenders and ensure bags are disposed of correctly.
Speaking at the June meeting of the Enniscorthy Municipal District (EMD), the Fine Gael councillor said a recent incident had seen 14 bags discarded at the centre despite the bins being practically empty.
“We have the car registrations, we have identified them via the CCTV,” he said. “But we’re not the police, we don’t want to see anyone prosecuted or sent to court.
“I’d like to see a system where a letter could be issued in warning, almost as a gentle reminder, informing them they were observed leaving bags there and to please refrain from doing it.”
In response, a member of Wexford County Council’s (WCC) environmental team said they could look into the issue but that all complaints were dealt with “on a case by case basis”.
