‘Instagrammable’ sign in Wexford town could encourage more photo opps for tourists and visitors

It may bear little resemblance to Hollywood but hopes are high that Wexford will soon have an “instagrammable” sign to rival the famous landmark overlooking tinsel town. Bemoaning the lack of branding in Wexford town, local councillor Leonard Kelly said visitors to the area had nowhere to take the kind of photos which invariably find their way onto popular social media platforms

“We need new signage on Wexford Quay, an ‘instagrammable’ large installation sign that would stand out for visitors to the town,” he said at the December meeting of the Wexford Borough District. “I know we have the fleadh harp which is beautiful but it’s not specifically branded as a Wexford sign.

"I brought this up with our chief executive and he said we’re getting signage on the outskirts of the town but nobody stops on a road to take these types of photos.”

While welcoming the idea in principal, district manager Anthony Bailey said he did not currently have any funding for new signs but said the councillors could use their own discretionary funding for such a project if they so wished.
