Illegal parking in Gorey is condemned as council admit it’s a ‘widespread’ problem
Wexford PeopleCalls have been made to clamp down on those parking illegally on footpaths in Gorey. Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District (GKMD) Cathaoirleach Donal Kenny said that, with the passage of time, he has begun to notice more and more drivers taking liberties in and around the town centre.
“I’m seeing a lot of drivers parking on footpaths, maybe it’s because I’m in my sixties now but I’m noticing a lot of people using walking frames and in wheelchairs, and it is a big issue for them,” he said. “I’m not saying I’m a saint, I probably have done it in my time, but I won’t be doing it any more.”
Area engineer Joanne Kehoe accepted that this is a “widespread” problem in Gorey and asked that Councillor Kenny specify a particular location so she can “point it out to the traffic wardens”.
She also committed to providing a figure on the amount of fines issued for illegal parking following a request from Cllr Anthony Donohue.
