The status of the long-awaited playground for Kilmuckridge remains in limbo after officials confirmed the site had yet to be transferred to Wexford County Council.

Having spent the best part of a decade fighting for the new amenity in her area, Councillor Mary Farrell once more requested an update on its progress at the December meeting of the Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District (GKMD).

“It hasn’t gone out to tender yet,” replied district manager Anita McLoughlin. “The surveying and the levelling of the site have to be done next. We’re working on it but it’s going to take a while.”

“How long is a while?” asked Cllr Farrell. “This has been going on for ten years.”

The deadline to draw down funding for the playground has been extended and planning permission has been granted, but, according to director of services Liz Hore, there are some minor issues holding up the project.

“The developer has yet to transfer the land over to us, he asked for a copy of the drawings so we’re following up on that, it’s not an easy project but it is progressing,” she said.

Reflecting on the number of delays and issues with constructing the playground over the last decade, Ms Hore said the biggest delay to date had been “getting agreement on the site in the first place”.

Work on constructing the playground is expected to commence this summer.
