Enniscorthy Farmer’s Market ‘happy with current location’ despite calls to move it to town centre
Wexford PeopleDespite repeated calls to move the Farmer’s Market in Enniscorthy to the centre of town the group which organises the weekly event has insisted it is happy to remain in its current location.
At the monthly meeting of the Enniscorthy Municipal District (EMD), Councillor John O’Rourke once more mooted the possibility of relocating an event which is held in Abbey Square every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We have a prime facility which we have developed in the centre of town at the car park in Dunne’s Stores,” he said. “I feel we should engage with the group with a view to moving it to the centre of town.
“It would generate footfall for the businesses in the town and could be amalgamated with the allotments. This would rejuvenate the centre of the town.”
“The car park in Murphy Floods is fantastic, it has opened up the whole town,” he said. “But we would have to ask the group which runs the market whether they want to come up here.”
However, district manager Claire Lawless had already posed that question and received a definite response.
“I have mentioned it to them, and they are happy with the location they’re currently in,” she said.
