The proposed design of a new bridge in Enniscorthy has been altered by “30 metres” to avoid some protected woodland on the previous landing area. Providing an update at the June meeting of the Enniscorthy Municipal District (EMD), engineer Larry McHale told councillors that the new River Slaney Bridge would still be constructed from the same location on the Enniscorthy side, but that the design had been amended.

“It’s starting at the same location on Mill Park Road, there’s no change in relation to that,” said Mr McHale. “It’s going at an angle where it lands on the Wexford Road side and is now avoiding an area of alluvial woodland, a protected area. It’s moved slightly northwards (30 metres) on the landing side.”

With the first public consultation on the flood relief scheme now closed, Mr McHale advised councillors that a second event would take place in Q4 of this year with plans to submit a planning application for the works in Q2 of 2026.
