Derelict property in New Ross sold for €30k must be returned to use within 30-36 months
Wexford PeopleA derelict property in New Ross has been sold by Wexford County Council (WCC) for €30,000. 16 Chapel Lane was acquired by the council in October 2024 following a compulsory purchase order (CPO) issued under the Derelict Sites Act.
It was identified as being suitable for acquisition under the urban regeneration development fund (URDF) Call 3 Programme. The intention of this programme is to have local authorities (in this instance WCC) act as the conduit for getting the long-term vacant and derelict properties into the ownership of those who will return them to use.
Therefore, properties acquired by local authorities under this programme must be offered for sale on the open market so as to bring them back in to use in a timely fashion.
The property was marketed for sale with an advised market value of €30,000. A best and final offer of €32,100 was received, however, property management was advised on April 24 that the prospective purchaser had pulled out of the purchase. The property was subsequently offered to the next highest bidder and a sale was agreed in line with the terms and conditions.
The property is now to be sold to PK Carpentry & Joinery Limited of Ballyfarnogue, New Ross for €30,000.
The purchaser is required to substantially complete works on this property, so as to render it non-derelict, within 30-36 months of the date of the closing of the sale. There will be a buyback option for the council should the works not be completed within the required timeframe.
