Calls for safety measures to be implemented on one of ‘most used roads’ in Rosslare district
Wexford PeopleEfforts to improve safety on one of Wexford’s busiest roads are continuing despite the “constant refusal” of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to address concerns raised by local councillors.
Having previously called for safety measures, including a new bus shelter, to be installed on the N25 at Drinagh, Councillor Lisa McDonald noted that other areas in the vicinity had received upgrades while this busy stretch of road was left untouched.
“Why have Barntown and Tagoat been given 60 kmh sections but there’s nothing in Drinagh?” she asked at the monthly meeting of the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD). “There’s as much traffic and as many businesses there as anywhere else on our roads, and as many feeder roads coming off it. There’s a constant refusal from TII to put a bus shelter there too.
“I want us to apply for safety measures there in the same way that we applied for them on the New Line Road.”
While roads engineer Michael Brazzill said Tagoat and Barntown were classed as villages and therefore received priority, Cathaoirleach Ger Carthy said the section of the N25 which passed through Drinagh was equally as busy.
“The junction there is one of the most used roads in the district,” he said. “There’s active businesses in that area, the speed limit needs to be reduced there and the roads tightened in, similar to Barntown.”
“We have a consultant employed to come up with a scheme in Drinagh,” added Mr Brazzill who was supported by director of services, Lynda Lacey..
“We have been discussing this road, we’re aware it’s a bad stretch, and we will be notifying TII of our concerns,” she said.
