‘All systems go’ for Gorey Inner Relief Road as council confirms construction will commence in 2027
Wexford PeopleConstruction on the Gorey Inner Relief Road will commence in the third quarter of 2027 after the project received planning approval at the July meeting of Wexford County Council (WCC).
Upon completion the relief road will link the Ballytegan Road with the Arklow Road and divert traffic out of Gorey. It will also provide more connectivity for new housing developments and unlock lands capable of providing up to 2,000 new homes.
Following a funding announcement from Housing Minister James Browne last month, the chief executive of WCC said it was “all systems go” for the project now.
“It’s been a long time coming, it’s a major piece of infrastructure for Gorey,” said Mr Eddie Taaffe. “This will facilitate significant development in the Gorey area.
“The project has received funding via the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF) so it’s all systems go now. Planning is in place, funding is in place, and we are working on the design and the tender documents. Construction will start by Q3 of next year.”
