€250,000 funding to link two Wexford villages was returned after works failed to start
Wexford PeopleA quarter of a million allocated to connect two Wexford villages was sent back to the Department of Transport four years ago because the works didn’t commence on time.
Expressing his disappointment that the scheme linking Rosslare Harbour and Kilrane did not progress, Councillor Ger Carthy asked for an update on the whereabouts of the money at the September meeting of the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD).
“That scheme was never progressed and I was concerned to learn that the money was sent back,” he said. “I need some reassurance on what’s happening with that and where the money went.”
Querying whether the scheme was cancelled due to the construction of the new Ballygillane Roundabout outside Rosslare Harbour, Cllr Carthy said there was “no impediment to an active travel scheme linking the two villages”.
The funding was allocated prior to roads engineer Michael Brazzill’s arrival in the RMD, and, as a result, he admitted to not being up-to-date on the scheme. However, he said he would investigate and discover why the work wasn’t carried out on time.
