Visitors from all over Ireland descended on one Tipperary town for Heritage Week

People from all over the country, and even further afield, descended on Tipperary for National Heritage Week, which took place at the end of August.
Successful events were held in Nenagh’s Historic and Cultural Quarter, organised by Nenagh Tourist Office, giving visitors a chance to see the town as it would have been in days gone by.
Visitors toured Nenagh Heritage Centre, including the Governor’s House and Gatehouse — the site of the cells once used for condemned prisoners.
As well as this, there were walking tours of the town, tours of Nenagh Courthouse, a talk on Michael Collins and the foundation of An Garda Síochána in 1922, and ‘The Big Dig’ in the Courthouse Carpark which gave children the opportunity to hold ancient bones, artefacts from bronze and iron ages.
The talk on Michael Collins, given by Dr John Reynolds attracted people from all over, including Laois, Dublin, Wales, other parts of Tipperary as well as Nenagh locals.
Another event, Melodies Beneath the Keep wrapped up Heritage Week in Nenagh, and saw musical performances from Clodagh Moylan on the harp, Gráinne Ó hUiginn on the cello and Eilidh Pope on violin beneath the keep of Nenagh Castle.
This event sparked calls for more musical events beneath the keep in the future, with feedback received by Nenagh Tourist Office saying they “kept the best wine for last with this fantastic musical afternoon in this wonderful setting”.
