Tipperary village ‘like Mondello Park’ amid calls for traffic calming measures

A Tipperary village is “like Mondello Park” due to speeding traffic, a local councillor has claimed.
At the January meeting of the Clonmel Borough District, Fianna Fáil councillor Siobhán Ambrose tabled a motion calling for the installation of a raised pedestrian crossing in Lisronagh, just outside Clonmel.
Cllr Ambrose’s motion also called for upgraded lights and any other safety works that could be used to reduce the speed of traffic going through the village.
"It’s like Mondello Park going through the village,” Cllr Ambrose said.
"You have children and all ages crossing over to go to the church, to go to school, and it’s making it very, very difficult for them because the cars are just flying.
“If we did have a raised platform, the enhanced flashing lights, and, if possible, ramps at either side of it, it would make a big difference in terms of safety,” she added.
In response to Cllr Ambrose’s motion, the council said that they had applied for funding under the Safety Works for Regional and Local Roads to undertake works at the crossing in Lisronagh.
"I am delighted that they have applied for funding under the Safety Works for Regional and Local Roads scheme,” the Fianna Fáil councillor said.
This isn’t the first time Cllr Ambrose has raised this issue, previously asking at a meeting in 2024 if the crossing could be upgraded under the Low Cost Safety Scheme.
At that time, Cllr Ambrose was told that an application under the Low Cost Safety Scheme would be made.
However, despite assurances that an application would be made, no works were carried out.
