Almost 40 community events are set to take place across Tipperary this autumn as part of National Climate Action Week, having received funding from the local authority.

37 projects have been allocated funding from Tipperary County Council (TCC), which will see events take place across the length and breadth of the county before and during National Climate Action Week, which takes place from October 13 to 19.

Projects awarded funding from the council include Ballina GAA Club for a community planting and biodiversity workshop, Burncourt Community Council for a biodiversity talk and visual event, Dundrum Men’s Group for a bee keeping and biodiversity talk and cycle, and Kilsheelan Kilcash Active Retirement Association for a recycling and composting talk.

Muintir na Tire, Tipperary were also allocated funding for a tree planting event, Canon Hayes Recreation Centre in Tipperary town were given funding for green class days and low-emission classes, while Down Syndrome Tipperary in Thurles were given funding for a green bingo event.

Councillor John Carroll, Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council said that the events help to bring climate action to communities across the county.

"I am delighted to see Tipperary County Council supporting so many local voluntary community groups to get involved in and take part in the An Taisce National Climate Action Week.

"This is a very proactive initiative by the Council to encourage and enhance climate action within our local communities,” Cllr Carroll added.

The local authority is also providing funding to Tipperary’s Public Participation Network (PPN) to support the Community Climate Coaches County event which likewise will take place during National Climate Action Week.

Ruth Smith, Co-ordinator, Tipperary PPN said: “The Tipperary PPN have always worked collaboratively with TCC since our establishment in 2014 and have built up a good support network.

"I am really happy to have received this funding from TCC to carry out our Climate Coaches County Event which aligns with our policies and strategies,” she added.
