Tipperary social housing applicants warned of important change to application form

By Katie O'Donovan, Independent.ie

Tipperary residents who are on the local authority’s social housing list are being informed of an important change which could impact on their ability to be offered a home.

Tipperary County Council have informed selected social housing applicants that the Government have instructed them to carry out a Housing Needs Assessment for 2025, and that failure to act will result in people being removed from the social housing list.

The local authority said that selected social housing applicants will have to inform the council of their wish to remain on the council’s social housing list as part of a Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government assessment to determine a true and accurate need across the country.

Tipperary County Council said that they will be writing to all relevant applicants to confirm their current housing need and they will be required to submit the completed application form.

Applicants will also be required to submit supporting documentation if they have had a change of circumstances, including income since they were last assessed.

Failure to return a completed application form confirming a social housing need will result in people’s names being removed from the social housing list, Tipperary County Council have warned.

The council have said that all HAP tenants, RAS tenants and applicants approved for a social housing transfer are excluded from this review, as well as those who submitted a review in 2024.
