Tipperary County Council grant permission to convert former pub into homes

By Katie O'Donovan, Independent.ie

Plans to turn a former Tipperary pub into homes have been granted by the local authority.

Shauna Lambe had applied to Tipperary County Council for retention permission for two apartments above the former Kate Ryan’s pub in Clonmel, as well as permission to turn the ground floor former pub area into residential accommodation.

In total, the former pub would contain five apartments, as, along with the two on the upper floors, three new apartments would be built on the ground floor, and proposed new first floor of the building which sits on Cashel Street and William Street in Clonmel.

The new apartments would consist of a single one-bedroom apartment, and two two-bedroom units.

Tipperary County Council granted planning permission for the development at the former pub, subject to seven conditions.

Among the conditions imposed by the local authority are that details of all external finishes of the development be agreed with the council before the start of works, that development will not begin until the developer gets a connection agreement from Uisce Éireann, that all cables associated with the new development be routed underground, and that a financial contribution of €1,882.20 is paid to the council for infrastructure that will be provided by Tipperary County Council.

Ms Lambe is the daughter of Marian and Johnny O'Flaherty, who ran the busy pub for many years, before Ms Lambe and her husband Danny took over the running of the bar.

Kate Ryan’s pub closed earlier this year, and was one of a number of pubs in the town that have closed its doors in recent times.
