Tipperary communities called on to get involved in county clean-up

Residents, communities and businesses in Tipperary are being called on to get involved in a county-wide clean-up weekend in October.
Tipperary County Council have opened registrations for the Team Tipp County Clean-Up Weekend, which will take place from October 9 to 12, as part of the council’s Climate Action Week.
The clean-up event will focus on roadside rubbish, while also aiming to enhance local communities and keep the county clean, green and litter-free.
Groups taking part will also have the chance to win one of five €200 prizes, with entrants asked to send details of their clean-up activity to the council.
Leas Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, Councillor Micheál Anglim said that the event is a “fantastic event” and encouraged as many people as possible to get involved.
“Every bag of litter collected helps protect our environment, supports biodiversity, and enhances the places where we live, work and visit.
“I am continually inspired by the dedication of our Tidy Towns groups, community volunteers, schools and local organisations who give so much of their time to improving their areas. This clean-up weekend is about building on that community spirit and encouraging everyone to play their part.
“Whether you can spare an hour or a full day, your contribution will make a difference. I encourage people of all ages to get involved and help make this year’s Team Tipp County Clean-Up the most successful yet,” Cllr Anglim added.
Groups and individuals can register online to take part, and they will be sent a free litter pick pack, which can be collected from the council offices in Clonmel, Nenagh, Tipperary town, Carrick-on-Suir and Thurles.
Any litter picked up over the weekend in specially branded clean-up bags can be disposed of free of charge at any of the council’s civic amenity sites.
Groups can also be entered into a competition with a chance of winning five, €200 prizes by sending details of their litter pick activity to the council.
Individuals, Tidy Towns groups, residents associations or workplaces can sign up for the event on Tipperary County Council’s website.
The council say that every piece of litter that is removed from spots around the county makes a difference.
“By giving just a little of your time, you can help protect Tipperary’s beautiful countryside, towns and villages for future generations,” they said.
