Stark warning that ‘somebody is going to be killed’ in Tipperary village unless speeding issue solved

“Somebody is going to be killed” in a Tipperary village if issues around speeding aren’t sorted out.
That’s the view of councillor Liam Browne, who was backing calls for speed mitigation measures in the village of Golden at the July meeting of the Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal Distirct.
Backing a motion by Fine Gael councillor Declan Burgess for a speed survey for the village, Cllr Browne said that the issue with speeding is not just in Golden village.
"We look at all the villages in Tipperary, I’ve had people coming to me over the weekend from Dundrum complaining about the speeding, Annacarty, Bansha, Cappawhite, every place we go to there’s an issue with speeding in and out of the villages,” Cllr Browne said.
"I don’t believe the speed ramps are a very good solution, they’re only a way towards a solution, we’ve got to find some way of having mobile cameras that can be moved around from village to village and collect speed fines and to actually put people off speeding in an out of villages,” Cllr Browne added.
"Somebody is going to get killed in Golden, just the way somebody is going to get killed on the way into Dundrum and Knockavilla, and have been in the past,” he said.
Calling for innovative solutions to stop speeding in towns and villages across the county, the independent councillor said that the local authority should look to Europe and America for ideas.
"In housing associations in America in smaller areas, they have their own speed cameras inside their housing associations, and are able to hand out fines, maybe we can look at doing that on a wider level,” the Cashel-based councillor suggested.
