In the Clonmel Borough District, all council-owned car parks will have free parking on each Saturday in December, after 10am. The town also has a car park in Suirside which is free all year round which will also be available for Christmas shoppers.

In Nenagh, three hours free car parking will be available in all council-owned car parks, starting on Saturday, December 6, running until Friday, December 26.

Local councillors have appealed to people to shop local this Christmas, saying that small retailers are the backbone of towns across Tipperary.

Tipperary Sinn Féin councillor Annemarie Ryan said “please shop local, support your independent retailers.

"Without them we lose the heart of our towns and villages,” she added.

In the Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel district, the council have committed €5,000 towards the Christmas lights displays in each of the three towns.

Fine Gael councillor Declan Burgess requested that this be increased.

"The council have committed to €5,000 contribution to Cahir, Cashel and Tipperary towns for Christmas lights in each town in the district. Given increasing costs for each town I formally requested we consider increasing that grant allocation,” he said.
