Public meeting to launch life-saving volunteer group in Tipperary

An initiative in Tipperary aimed at saving lives is set to launch later this month.
There are plans to launch a community first responder group in Tipperary town which aims to get help to people who need it in the vital first few minutes before National Ambulance Service paramedics arrive.
Kevin O’Donnell, along with local independent councillor John O’Heney will host a public meeting on Tuesday, November 25 to see if there is enough support to set up a community first responders (CFR) group in the west Tipperary town.
The first meeting will take place in the Community Centre on St Michael’s Street, Tipperary town at 7.30pm.
"Attending on the night will be representatives from the National Ambulance Service who will explain how this group will work, in conjunction with the National Ambulance Service,” Cllr O’Heney said.
Training will be provided for the voluntary service, he added.
Community First Responders are volunteers who are trained to attend certain types of emergency calls in the area where they live or work.
Working with the National Ambulance Service, CFRs aim is to reach a potential life threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives.
Their role is to help stabilise the patient and provide the appropriate care including CPR and defibrillation, until the more highly skilled ambulance crew arrives on scene to take over the treatment, according to the National Ambulance Service.
Anyone who is interested in taking part in the CFR group in Tipperary town is asked to pop along on the night for more information.
