Plans lodged for eight new homes on disused Tipperary site

Plans have been lodged for eight new homes on a disused site in a busy north Tipperary town.

Thomas and Sean Moore applied to Tipperary County Council for planning permission to build eight new homes on Mitchel Street in Thurles.

The site, which is bounded to the south and east by Ikerrin Court, has been out of use for a number of years, and is considered a regeneration site by the Thurles local area plan.

The site has two disused factory buildings located, according to planning files.

As part of the plans, two detached homes will be built – one two-storey and one bungalow – along with six semi-detached bungalows.

The development includes one four-bedroom, two-storey detached house, with the remaining units comprising two-bedroom bungalows.

The agent acting on behalf of the applicants said that the two-bedroom houses will aim to address the demand for two-bed houses in Tipperary, catering to those who may want to downsize into a smaller home.

According to planning documents, the new properties will be designed to be accessible to all.

"The development features a variety of housing types including two detached properties, and six semi-detached bungalows. The dwellings have been designed to be both adaptable and accessible to all,” an agent said.

"There is a large common public space as amenity, and the proposed development is located within walking distance of main public amenities,” the agent added.

Under the plans, one of the units would be given to the council to be used as social and affordable housing.

A decision on the application is due from Tipperary County Council by April 1.
