Plans for major Tipperary housing development up for approval

Tipperary County Council will vote on plans for 45 new social homes in a busy town, a development aimed at addressing local housing needs.
The council is proposing to build 45 homes on a site at Mountain View Drive in Cahir, and are due to vote on the proposals at Monday’s plenary meeting.
Under the plans, the development would consist of six one-bedroom apartments, two two-bedroom bungalows, 11 two-bedroom houses, 19 three-bedroom houses, six four-bedroom homes, and one five-bedroom home.
An existing public open space in the estate is set to be retained as part of the new plans, with a proposal to link this space with further linear parks within the scheme, creating a “greenway” connection for pedestrians and cyclists from Mountain View Drive and Millennium Place to the new playing pitch that is to be added to the development.
The new homes to be built by Tipperary County Council come after planning permission for 75 homes was granted in 2021 for the adjacent site. Top Drawer Developments was granted permission for 45 two-storey houses and 30 terraced townhouses.
101 car parking spaces will be delivered under the council’s plans, with 31 of these allocated for visitors.
An agent for the council said that the housing development will create a strong scheme on an “important site”.
"We have designed a scheme of architectural merit that will fulfil the County Development Plan and Local Area Plan goals to strengthen the built edge of the site in question and create a strong residential scheme on this important masterplan site on the outskirts of Cahir town centre,” they said.
