Planning granted for new homes for the elderly in Tipperary

24 new homes are on the way for the elderly in Tipperary after the local authority granted planning permission.

Tipperary County Council granted permission to Andrew Fanning for the development at Rosemount Farm Road, in Barnora, Cahir, which would see 24 two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows built on the site.

In planning documents, the project is described as being “transformational” for the town of Cahir in a time of housing crisis.

The project is “a transformative project for Cahir that not only addresses the urgent housing shortage but also specifically caters to the growing demand for elderly housing,” planning files say.

“Our goal is to create a community where every resident feels valued and supported. The design of the development encourages social interaction and community engagement, with shared spaces that foster relationships among neighbors,” agents for the developer said.

Planning permission was granted by the local authority despite three objections by a neighbour to the proposed development, who raised concerns about potential overlooking of his property.

The objector stated that four of the units that would be built would be in close proximity to the boundary with his property, which would represent an “extreme invasion” of his family’s privacy.

Tipperary County Council granted permission for the development subject to 21 conditions.
