Parts of Tipperary estate look like ‘junkyard’ with campervans and scrap cars

Parts of a Tipperary housing estate look like a “junkyard” with a several cars and campervans parked around it, a local representative has said.
One resident of the Elm Park estate in Clonmel is allegedly running a business repairing campervans and cars from their home, a recent meeting of the Clonmel Borough District was told, an issue that Mayor of Clonmel Cllr Siobhán Ambrose said needed to be dealt with.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Pat English asked the council staff if there had been any update on clearing up the issue.
“A big worry of mine, and it has come to my attention over the last year or more, I’ve had phone calls from residents of Elm Park in relation to the unauthorised use of the area for the maintenance of campervans and cars.
“A resident there is running a business, and there’s an awful lot of scrap cars and various other things in the area, one section of Elm Park looks like a junkyard,” Cllr English said.
“It’s very unfair on the existing residents in the area and we’re getting it in the head, and rightly so. This has been reported on numerous occasions and nothing seems to have been done over that period,” he added.

Agreeing, Cllr Ambrose said that the situation is hard on the people living in the estate.
“I know that there has been work done in relation to Elm Park, it is difficult and I want to agree with Cllr English in relation to the number of vehicles that are dotted all over Elm Park.
“It’s very difficult for people who are living there and their families trying to get parking when there are so many campervans and other vehicles taking up spaces.
“It’s something that needs to be dealt with,” Cllr Ambrose added.
In response, Jonathan Cooney, the council’s director of service for housing said that the housing section had been engaging with the resident in question, but that progress had been slow.
“Progress has been slow, albeit limited, but we had a fairly recent visit up there and timelines have been agreed and that’s something we’ll be monitoring over the coming weeks,” he said.
“We are also engaging with other departments within Tipperary County Council who will assist us in that regard,” Mr Cooney said.
