Owner of Tipperary pub made famous by Killinaskully seeks to retain storage building

The owner of a Tipperary pub that played a starring role in the 2000s TV series Killinaskully has applied for planning permission to retain additional storage facilities.
Martin Kennedy has applied to Tipperary County Council for permission to retain a commercial store at An Bonnáin Búi in Ballinahinch.
Planning documents state that the store is intended to be used in conjunction with the pub.
The pub itself is a protected structure, being listed on the register of protected structures.
The pub is best known for its role as Jacksie’s Bar in the RTÉ comedy series Killinaskully, starring Pat Shortt.
The pub was used for the exterior shots of Jacksie’s, but the interior scenes were shot in Ryan’s Thatched Pub in nearby Killoscully.
The RTÉ comedy, written by and starring Pat Shortt, ran for five seasons between 2004 and 2008 and followed the residents of the fictional village of Killinaskully. It aired to an audience of over 800,000 people on Sunday nights.
Killinaskully characters, ‘Jimmy’ (Jack Walsh), ‘Willie Power’ (Pat Shortt), and ‘Timmy’ (Joe Rooney).
The village of Ballinahinch also formed the backdrop for other settings in the show, including the church, the school, the garda station, and a home that was used as Goretti’s Bed and Breakfast.
The pub announced its closure in 2014 amid the recession before being sold to a new owner.
The premises went on the market again in 2023, when Mr Kennedy reportedly bought the property and reopened it to the public.
Tipperary County Council planners are due to decide on Mr Kennedy’s retention application by November 26.
