Overnight water restrictions to be in place for parts of Tipperary this weekend

By Katie O'Donovan, Independent.ie

As the heat wave continues, customers on a Tipperary water supply are being encouraged to conserve water this weekend as overnight restrictions will be in place across the weekend.

Homes and businesses served by the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant will face overnight restrictions, which Uisce Éireann say is essential to protect water levels at the treatment plant.

Customers in Poulatar, Ballybacon, Newcastle, Ballyveera, Castlegrace, Shanakill, Magherareagh, Ardfinnan and the surrounding areas will be impacted the restrictions across the weekend.

The restrictions are necessary as a result of low reservoir levels and operational issues at the plant, Uisce Éireann said.

Overnight restrictions will start tonight (Friday) at 10pm, and will remain in place until 6am on Saturday morning, before coming back into effect again at 10pm on Saturday, and again at 10pm on Sunday.

Pierce Faherty, Uisce Éireann Water Operations Manager in Tipperary has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore supply to normal levels.

"We understand the inconvenience of overnight restrictions, but these measures are necessary to ensure continuous daytime supply for homes and businesses while we allow the reservoir levels time to recover,” Mr Faherty said.
