Over 5,000 in Tipperary without water as burst main disrupts supply

By Katie O'Donovan, Irish Independent

Over 5,000 residents and businesses in Tipperary are currently without water as Uisce Éireann deals with a major burst water main in the county.

The burst happened in Ardfinnan, and people in the Goatenbridge, Poulatar, Newcastle, Ballybacon, Grange, Jamestown, Marlfield, Loughryan, Loughlohery, Loughtally, Derrygrath, Rathkeevin, Inishlounaght, Nicholastown, Knocklofty, Castlegrace, Ardfinnan and surrounding areas may be impacted.

Uisce Éireann says crews are working to deal with the burst, but that water supplies are not expected to be returned until 9.30am tomorrow morning (Thursday, April 30).

A temporary water tanker will be available at Ardfinnan National School from April 29 until 9am on Thursday morning.

People are being advised to boil the water from the tanker before use.

Meanwhile, separate water issues are affecting other parts of the county.

In Cahir, Uisce Éireann has imposed a boil water notice (BWN) on over 400 homes, farms and businesses.

Customers on the Lissava Public Water Supply have been advised to boil their water before use, due to elevated turbidity at the water treatment plant.

Homes and farms in the Lissava, Tincurry, Whitechurch, Clonmore South, Clonmore North, Raheen, Coolaclamper, Ballynamona, and Caherabbey Upper areas are impacted by the boil water notice.

Uisce Éireann say they do not know how long the boil water notice will be in place, but that they will continue to liaise with the HSE to ensure the BWN can be lifted as soon as possible.

In Tipperary town, residents and business owners are reminded that a boil water notice imposed on February 12 remains in place.

Uisce Éireann say this is due to elevated turbidity at the water treatment plant, and impacts more than 5,000 homes and businesses who are on the Tipperary Town Public Water Supply.

Customers are advised to continue following boil water guidance until further notice.
