Over 1,000 Tipperary homes and businesses now able to access high-speed broadband

Over 1,000 homes and businesses in Tipperary will now have access to high-speed fibre broadband as the Government’s National Broadband Plan continues to roll out.
1,100 homes and busiesses in the Newport area of Tipperary can now access fibre broadband, including in the rural surrounds and townlands of Newport, Birdhill and Greenhall.
31,000 premises across County Tipperary are included in the State’s Intervention Area, which will see National Broadband Ireland (NBI) deliver minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms, and schools.
As the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, County Tipperary will receive €118m of Government investment under the National Broadband Plan.
1,103 premises in the Newport area can now access the fibre broadband, with connection works continuing elsewhere in the county, including in Birr, near Borrisokane.
Works have already been completed in Clonmel, Tipperary town, and Nenagh.
TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said: “We are delighted to announce that over 1,100 Tipperary premises in the Newport deployment area can now order high-speed broadband services through the NBI network. This will enable those who connect to experience the life-changing benefits of high-speed broadband with minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second.
"Overall, over 26,300 homes, businesses and farms in Tipperary can now order a high-speed fibre connection to the NBI network. This includes over 1,600 premises near Clonmel, almost 2,900 near Nenagh, and over 2,900 near Tipperary town,” Mr Malone added.
