New Tipperary café aiming to open in time for Christmas

A new café could be serving customers in Thurles just in time for the festive rush, as part of the town’s €3.4 million Market Quarter redevelopment.
At the September meeting of the Thurles Municipal District, Fianna Fáil councillor Kay Cahill Skehan asked if there was any updates on the Market Quarter development in Thurles.
The Market Quarter is a €3.4million redevelopment of a 19-century farm building near Thurles Town Park to turn it into a mixed-use community space, including a new café.
At Tipperary County Council’s September plenary meeting, councillors were asked to vote on the disposal of a unit in the Market Square development to One19 Coffee on a five year lease.
Councillors approved the disposal, paving the way for the café owner to open up in Thurles.
One19 Coffee currently have an outlet in Templemore, serving coffee, brunch, sweet treats and acai bowls.
At this month’s district meeting, Cllr Cahill Skehan asked if the new café would be able to open before Christmas.
Thurles district administrator Sharon Scully said that the site is due to be handed back to the council in November.
"The deadline has been extended out into the first week of November, and by that time the site will be handed back to us. A successful tenant has been identified, but we’re at a standstill period now until September 23, at which point then, they’ll sign a lease and they’ll work with the contractor to fit it out,” Ms Scully explained.
“So we would be hoping that that café will be open by the end of the year,” she added.
