New apartments planned above Tipperary pub

By Katie O'Donovan, Independent.ie

Three new apartments could be on the way above a busy pub in a major north Tipperary town under plans submitted to Tipperary County Council.

PJ and Ann Barrett have applied to the local authority for an extension of their property at 17 Friar Street in Thurles to create a one-bedroom apartment, while two further one-bedroom apartments would be built in the existing stores, behind the pub building.

The ground floor of the building is currently established as The Railway Bar, which will remain in operation if planning for the new apartments is granted.

Tipperary County Council is expected to make a decision on the application by October 19.

The popular bar was reopened earlier this year under PJ and Ann Barrett, with the pub previously having been known as Tom Dunne’s.
