New apartments on the way for north Tipperary town centre site

Eight new apartments are on the way for a major north Tipperary town after the local authority granted planning permission.

Seamus Sheahan applied to Tipperary County Council for permission to demolish an existing warehouse, to be replaced with eight new apartments on a site on Kenyon Street in Nenagh.

Four of the units will be two-bedroom apartments, while the remaining four will be one-bedroom, forming a four-storey block with balconies, bin storage, and bike storage.

Two of the units will be handed over to Tipperary County Council for social housing when the units are complete, according to planning documents.

Three small units will also be developed on the ground floor of the new building, which will be for community or retail use.

The existing warehouse is currently being used by St Paul’s Boxing Club, and it is not clear from planning files where they will be based when the building is demolished.

Planning permission was originally sought for 10 apartments on the site, however, the council said that there were concerns about the “overlooking of the future occupiers of these apartments” as the ground floor would front onto the Kenyon Street car park.

"A use, other than residential, may be more appropriate at ground floor level,” council planners added.

Tipperary County Council granted planning permission for the revised development subject to 16 conditions.
