Major Tipperary housing development is given green light for second phase of homes

A major new housing development is set to expand in north Tipperary, after the County Council approved plans for 52 homes.
O'Ceallaigh Westfield Ltd had applied to Tipperary County Council for permission to build 52 houses on the Brittas Road in Thurles, as part of a wider overall development.
The plans are to build three four-bedroom homes, 33 three-bedroom, semi-detached houses, and two duplex blocks with eight apartments each.
The planning application also sought permission for a new vehicular entrance to the site from Brittas Road, local roads and footpaths, resident and visitor parking, bicycle parking, one external communal bin store, site landscaping and amenity areas, boundary treatments, lighting, and drainage.
Permission was granted for the development by Tipperary County Council, subject to 22 conditions.
Among the conditions imposed by the council are that the developer pay the local authority a development contribution of €121,493 for the new homes to be connected to services supplied by the council.
Planners also specified that bathroom windows of all the houses be frosted glass to protect the privacy of the residents, that all homes have enough outside space for three wheelie bins, and that all roads and footpaths as part of the development be fully complete before people can move in.
Of the 52 homes, 11 of them will be given to Tipperary County Council for the provision of social housing, agents for the developer have agreed.
Planning permission for 52 homes on the site comes just weeks after the developer was granted permission for 60 homes on the same site.
O'Ceallaigh Westfield Ltd were granted permission by Tipperary County Council for 60 new homes on the Brittas Road in August, which would include five four-bedroom, 27 three-bedroom, and 12 one-bedroom houses.
They were also granted permission for the construction of two duplex blocks, with eight duplex apartments – four one-bedrooms and four two-bedrooms.
Alongside the housing, the plans also included a creche with space for 47 children.
Both phases of the development will add over 110 homes to Thurles.
