Long-awaited safety improvements on major Tipperary road set to take place

By Katie O'Donovan, Independent.ie

A busy Tipperary road will see traffic management measures implemented to facilitate the installation of traffic calming beginning next week.

Traffic management will be in place from Monday, August 25, near the Mill Road roundabout in Thurles, as part of the N75 Liberty Square to Anner Hotel road improvement scheme.

The traffic management plan is to facilitate traffic calming measures to be installed as part of the pavement scheme, which will aim to make the area safer for motorists and pedestrians.

Tipperary County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by the works, and urges anyone with comments or queries on the works to contact the Roads Capital Office of Tipperary County Council at 0818 06 5000.

The Liberty Square to Anner Hotel road improvement scheme aims to improve safety along a busy national road, and includes pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing, replacement or widening of sections of the existing footpaths, and upgrading of pedestrian crossing facilities.

Kerb buildouts, improved drainage, renewed road markings, signage, enhanced soft landscaping, and some traffic calming measures also formed part of the overall plan.

Tipperary County Council say the scheme will have numerous benefits, including Improved safety for pedestrians, cyclists and vulnerable road users, reduced noise, reduced traffic speeds and improved footpaths and crossing points.
