Key Tipperary infrastructure project to process to planning stage by year’s end

There are hopes that a major Tipperary infrastructure project will progress to the planning stages by the end of this year.
Fine Gael councillor Phyll Bugler sought an update on the flood relief scheme for Ballina at the July meeting of Tipperary County Council, urging for continued progress.
"We had a good day in Ballina with the flood relief team, and they were excellent in answering our questions, so I’d like to see this progress,” Cllr Bugler said.
"There were eight flooding events in Ballina which were all climate related from the rain coming down the mountain, so we’re very thankful for the work that Tipperary County Council did in progressing this with the Office of Public Works (OPW),” the Ballina-based councillor added.
In response, a representative from the council’s planning section said that the flood relief scheme for Ballina is complex but that the project should be able to progress to the planning stage shortly.
"The emerging preferred option for the flood scheme was announced approximately a month ago, and it was very well engaged with within the community in Ballina, we have an awful lot of information that has come back and the preferred solution would be modified to take account of the information that has come through,” the council’s planning representative said.
“We would expect that that scheme would be ready to go through its planning process by the end of the year,” he added.
