Iconic Tipperary drive nominated for national best road trips award

A scenic Tipperary drive is up for a top award, with Tipperary County Council encouraging people to show their support and vote for it.
The Vee has been nominated for an award in the Best Drives series, in association with The Journal and Allianz Insurance, which aims to showcase some of the most picturesque drives across the country.
According to the nomination, the Vee is considered “one of the most visually stunning drives in Ireland”.
“A road named for its V-shaped bend, it offers breathtaking views of the Galtee Mountains and Galtymore, Ireland’s highest inland peak,” according to Allianz.
The Vee drive can be started from either Clonmel or Cahir, before passing through Clogheen, the Vee and Lismore.
"Along the way, stop at Bay Lough for views of the peaceful lake or go kayaking. This drive guarantees you will be surrounded by beautiful and unspoiled landscapes and really gives you a road trip feeling,” Allianz said.
The winner of the competition will see a special video made and shared on The Journal’s platforms.
Tipperary County Council has encouraged people to “support Tipperary with your vote.”
The Vee gets its name from a v-shaped turn on the road leading to a gap in the Knockmealdown Mountains, and straddles the border between Tipperary and Waterford.
It offers panoramic views across the surrounding countryside, and rises to approximately 610 metres above sea level.
Nominated alongside the Vee are the Sally Gap, the Hook Peninsula, the Boyne Valley, Lough Erne, Waterford’s south coast, and Clifden in county Galway.
