The public consultation for plans for the 2.7 acre Goldcrop site in Carrick-on-Suir opened earlier this month, with officials in the Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District (MD) and Tipperary County Council seeking opinions from the public on what the future of the site should be.

At the June meeting of the Carrick-on-Suir MD, councillors were told that so far, more than 1,500 online submissions had been received from members of the public about the future of the site.

Speaking at the meeting, the Carrick-on-Suir district administrator said that more hard copy submissions had also been received.

"We’ve had a huge response online and in person around the Goldcrop feasibility, so that was just asking people what would they like to see on that strategic 2.7 acre site between Dillon Bridge and the castle,” the administrator explained.

"We’ve had over 1,500 online responses and a number of hard copy surveys, there are a number of people who don’t like to work online, there was hard copy surveys in the office in reception, you can sit there and do them, or you can take them away and bring them back,” she continued.

The public consultation remains open until Monday, June 30 at 1pm.

The Goldcrop site in Carrick-on-Suir has been derelict for a number of years, and was bought by Tipperary County Council in 2022.

Reddy Architecture + Urbanism have been appointed by Tipperary County Council to carry out the feasibility study as part of the Carrick-on-Suir Riverside Regeneration project.

Carrick-on-Suir’s regeneration project is co funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund, which aims to transform tourism across eight counties in Ireland's Hidden Heartlands and Ireland's Ancient East by diversifying the local economy and providing new employment opportunities for workers and communities.
