Former Tipperary pub to swap pints for pilates after planning approval

Planning permission has been granted for one former Tipperary pub to swap pints for pilates.
Claire Halpin applied to Tipperary County Council for planning permission to change the use of the former Dowling’s Pub on Kenyon Street in Nenagh from a public house to a pilates studio.
The planned pilates studio will operate on an appointment basis only, according to planning files.
An agent acting on behalf of the applicant said that the studio would not create any new noise while the change of use would not create any increased demand for parking in the area.
"The premises is located within the town centre, where a range of public parking facilities, pedestrian routes, and public transport options are already well established.”
Now, the local authority has granted planning permission for the change of use, subject to four conditions.
Among the conditions imposed are that the new studio only be used for what it was granted permission for, and that no further changes of use take place without asking the council for permission.
The council also stipulated that no signs, symbols or advertising can be placed on the building in an attempt to respect the traditional streetscape in the area, and that any construction works are carried out in such a way that it won’t impact the environment around the building.
Under the granted plans, the studio would open from 7am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, 7am to 8pm on Fridays and 8am to 2pm on Saturdays.
Ms Halpin currently offers reformer pilates classes in Nenagh, as well as mat pilates and yoga in both Limerick and Nenagh.
