Former Tipperary pub could swap pints for Pilates under new plans

A former Tipperary pub could swap pints for Pilates under new plans before Tipperary County Council.

Claire Halpin has applied to the local authority for planning permission to change the use of the former Dowling’s Pub on Kenyon Street in Nenagh from a public house to a Pilates studio.

The planned Pilates studio will operate on an appointment basis only, according to planning files, with small class sizes and one-to-one sessions.

The proposed Pilates studio would operate from early morning to early evening, and would eliminate late night associated with the building’s former use.

An agent acting on behalf of the applicant said that the studio would not create any new noise, with no amplified music being used, while the change of use would not create any increased demand for parking in the area.

"The premises is located within the town centre, where a range of public parking facilities, pedestrian routes, and public transport options are already well established.

"As a former pub, the building would previously have benefited from—and relied upon—the existing town centre parking provision for its customers,” they added.

Under the plans, the studio would open from 7am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, 7am to 8pm on Fridays and 8am to 2pm on Saturdays.

Ms Halpin currently offers reformer Pilates classes in Nenagh, as well as mat Pilates and yoga in both Limerick and Nenagh.

Tipperary County Council is expected to make a decision on the application by February 4.
