Former Dairygold site in Tipperary village is earmarked for social housing

Plans for new social homes in one Tipperary village have been welcomed by councillors and residents after an agreement was reached with the local authority.
Tipperary County Council have been in talks about taking over a site in the village of Hollyford, initially for the roads section to use as a depot, but now an agreement has been reached to use the site for social housing.
The former Dairygold site in the village has been unused for some time, with plans now agreed to build five homes on the site, as well as keeping a portion to be used by the roads section.
Three three-bedroom homes as well as two one-bedroom homes are set to be built on the site.
Local residents in the Hollyford Community Council said they were “glad” of the agreement, and will keep the pressure on Tipperary County Council to ensure they deliver.
"The Community Council will keep in touch with Tipperary County Council to monitor progress in relation to the above,” the community group wrote on social media.
At the July meeting of the Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District, independent councillor John O’Heney welcomed the news saying the development was “very satisfactory”.
"I’d just like to pass on my appreciation to everyone in the housing department for the very satisfactory resolution to the housing issue in Hollyford, the community council are happy to say there are three three-bedroom houses and two single bed houses built in the village, which is fantastic for such a rural setting,” Cllr O’Heney said.
"It’s something that I had been advocating for a long time, so I’d just like to say thank you for a very satisfactory resolution to that,” Cllr O’Heney added.
Cashel-based councillor Liam Browne also welcomed the plans for the new homes on the site.
"I’m absolutely delighted to see that they’ve come to a resolution there, that was one of the first meetings I had with any director in Tipperary County Council, along with Cllr O’Heney, and we had to fight that case but we’re delighted to get some response from it, it will be brilliant,” Cllr Browne said.
"I also think there should be more of those developments in the little villages like Hollyford, but that’s probably for further meetings,” he added.
