Decision to remove parking from busy Tipperary street is ‘desperately needed’ and ‘common sense’

A decision to remove parking spaces from a busy street in one north Tipperary town has been branded as “common sense”.

Parnell Street in Thurles has been the scene of traffic chaos due to cars parking on both sides of the street, blocking traffic from getting through.

In a post on social media, independent Thurles councillor Jim Ryan said that the removal of parking along the street was something he had been campaigning for for many years.

"I am so delighted that after fighting for years to have parking removed from Parnell Street that the council have painted double yellow lines along this extremely dangerous and busy road,” Cllr Ryan said.

Many people in the comments were quick to agree with the move, with one saying “finally, you can't bate a bit of common sense, disaster of a street for traffic.”

Another person wrote: “hopefully the cars that park there now will get their punishment,” while someone else said that it was “desperately needed”.

"So glad this has been done it’s a disaster most days hopefully people will adhere to the no parking rule,” another person shared.
