Dangerous Tipperary bridge to be resurfaced after years of accidents

A dangerous bridge in Tipperary, which has been the scene of numerous accidents over the years, is set to be resurfaced in the new year.

The Number Seven bridge on the Thurles to Templemore road has been examined by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), following several traffic collisions, according to local councillor Jim Ryan.

"I have received the following update from Tipperary County Council regarding the Number Seven bridge on the Thurles to Templemore road which has seen a huge number of traffic accidents over the years. A TII roads inspector carried out a HD 28 inspection following a request by the Municipal District,” he explained.

“The TII inspector recommended that the section of road over the bridge deck to be resurfaced in early 2026.

"In the interim, W134 signage will be erected and the surface will be mechanically retextured in the coming weeks to increase the skid resistance in the area,” Cllr Ryan added.

Analysis of recent accidents on the bridge has been done by An Garda Síochána to try to figure out the causes for collisions.

"It should be noted that speed is considered to be an underlying factor in a number of the incidents which have occurred,” Cllr Ryan said.
