Calls for zero-tolerance to anti-social behaviour in Tipperary after viral videos of street fight

Locals in Tipperary town are being urged to call 999 immediately if they witness anti-social behaviour, after “shocking” footage of public fights was shared online.
Sinn Féin councillor Annemarie Ryan said that she had seen videos of fights taking place in Tipperary town, and had spoken to local gardaí about the need for a swift, zero-tolerance response.
"I've seen some pretty shocking footage of people fighting in public areas in Tipperary town. Unfortunately these incidents don't seem to be one offs,” Cllr Ryan said.
This comes after footage was shared on social media of a female boxer beating up another girl in the Market Yard car park in Tipperary town.
The incident prompted Tipperary Boxing Club into handing the boxer involved a lifetime ban from the club, saying they were “devastated” by the situation.
Cllr Ryan said that anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour in the town should report it immediately by calling 999.
"I've spoken to An Garda Síochána Tipperary, both the Inspector and the Community Garda, about the need for a swift garda response and a zero tolerance approach to this kind of intimidating behaviour,” the Sinn Féin councillor added.
Cllr Ryan said that calling the emergency number leads to a quicker response from gardaí, and encouraged people to use this number if they see any worrying anti-social behaviour in the town.
"It's really important that we call 999 and report this type of behaviour as soon as we see it. Please use this number, this is the advice from the gardaí. It gets logged on the pulse system and generally leads to a quicker response time,” she said.
Local gardaí have issued a number of anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs) in Tipperary town throughout the summer, Cllr Ryan said, adding that gardaí said they would continue to act on this.
"Gardaí have issued a number of ASBO's (anti-social behaviour orders) and have confiscated alcohol from certain individuals and they assure me they will continue to act on this,” the Sinn Féin councillor explained.
"I have asked for more patrols in Tipperary town, but unfortunately, it is the reality that we simply don't have enough gardaí, in our towns and villages.
“It's our town, our amenities and nobody has the right to behave in such an intimidating manner,” Cllr Ryan added.
