Almost €2million has been allocated to Tipperary County Council under the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS).

€1.8million has been allocated to the local authority as part of the scheme, and comes as part of a national funding post of €14million.

The LIS can be used by the county council to upgrade rural roads and laneways, improving access to homes, farms and businesses across the county.

South Tipperary TD Michael Murphy welcomed the allocation, saying that there are many roads across Tipperary that could benefit from upgrading.

"It’s great to see €1.8million allocated to Tipperary for rural road improvements. We all know a road or laneway across the county that is in real need of an upgrade.

"The Local Improvement Scheme is designed to support the continued improvement of non-public roads in rural communities and improves access to rural homes and farms, as well as outdoor amenities such as our lakes, rivers, mountains and beaches,” Deputy Murphy said.

"Under the scheme Tipperary County Council are responsible for identifying and prioritising roads for improvement works in Tipperary in consultation with residents and landowners,” the Fine Gael TD added.

North Tipperary TD Ryan O’Meara said the funding shows the Government’s commitment to improving rural areas.

"This funding shows our commitment to rural communities, supporting local authorities to deliver real improvements for families, farmers and visitors,” the Fianna Fáil TD said.
