‘A fresh start’ for 61 Tipperary families as they get their forever home

The official opening of a Tipperary housing estate is a “brilliant opportunity” for those who are getting their forever homes.
The Dun Lia housing estate in Thurles was officially opened last Friday by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, providing 61 new homes to those on Tipperary County Council’s housing list.
One of those is Emma O’Mahony, who said that a permanent home is a relief to her and her three children.
"I am delighted to have recently received a new home from Clúid. This has been a brilliant opportunity for myself and my three children, as it offers us stability with a forever home.
“Having three kids, including one with additional needs, knowing that we won't have to move again is such a positive for us. I look forward to being part of the Clúid community,” Ms O’Mahony said.
Approved Housing Body (AHB) Clúid delivered the new homes, which will provide long-term, secure accommodation to households on the council’s housing list.
The new homes are a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses, including eight two-bed bungalows to be allocated to households with accessibility requirements, such as older people or wheelchair users.
The new residents are due to start moving in next week.
The Dun Lia development brings the number of Clúid-managed homes in Tipperary to 409. Clúid also delivered 58 homes in Roscrea this year, with an additional 24 due to be completed before the end of the year.
Officially launching the new development, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the new homes represent a new start for the people who will be moving in.
"Each one of these homes represents a fresh start for an individual or family. I hope to be attending even more of these wonderful events in the coming months and years,” Mr Martin said.
"Under our new housing strategy, Delivering Homes, Building Communities, this government is committed to delivering an average of 12,000 new social homes every year until 2030,” he added.
AHBs like Clúid will play a key part in helping to meet Ireland’s housing targets, the Taoiseach said.
"AHBs and local authorities will play an integral part in achieving these ambitious targets, so I want to commend Clúid and Tipperary County Council for what they have done here and encourage them to keep up the good work,” Mr Martin said.
Brian O’Gorman, Clúid’s chief executive officer, said the new residents of Dun Lia will have a secure home in time for Christmas.
"The homes here in Dun Lia are fine examples of the kind of homes Clúid is delivering across the country. The new residents here in Dun Lia will begin getting their keys and moving in next week. They will be spending this Christmas in their ‘forever home’ and starting 2026 with the security and peace of mind that quality, secure housing bring,” he said.
"Our growing construction programme is working to ensure even more individuals and families have a high-quality, secure and affordable place to call home. AHBs like Clúid have played an important role in addressing housing need under the Housing for All strategy,” Mr O’Gorman added.
