By Katie O'Donovan, Independent.ie

Customers served by the Galtee Regional Public Water Supply have been advised to boil their water before use due to elevated turbidity at the water treatment plant.

The notice affects over 15,000 customers across a number of areas in Tipperary, including Emly, Lattin, Ballinard, Cullen, Ballywire, Kilross, Limerick Junction, Monard, Lisvarnane, Rosadrehid, Bansha, Tankerstown, Kilfeacle, Golden, Cashel, Rosegreen, New Inn, Knockgraffan, Clonpet, Thomastown, Donaskeagh and surrounding areas.

The areas of Ballincroona and Cromhill Kilteely in County Limerick are also impacted, Uisce Éireann said.

Uisce Éireann’s Pierce Faherty said that they are working to lift the notice as quickly as possible.

"We acknowledge the inconvenience of a boil water notice on the local community and assure those impacted that we are working as quickly and efficiently as possible to lift the notice”.

The utility have said that water must be boiled before drinking, preparing drinks made with water, making ice, brushing teeth and preparing salads.

Uisce Éireann said that water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and allowed to cool. Cover and store in a refrigerator or cold place. Water from the hot tap of kitchen or bathroom sinks is not safe to drink, they added.

The water utility say that they do not know at present when the boil water notice will be lifted, but that they will continue to liaise and consult with the Health Service Executive with a view to lifting the boil water notice as soon as possible.
