Updates sought in relation to domestic violence shelter for Sligo
The Sligo ChampionA motion before this month's meeting of Sligo County Council heard calls for “an immediate update from the Department of Justice, Cuan and relevant agencies on the status, timelines and delivery of the proposed new domestic violence refuge for Sligo.”
In her motion, Cllr Marie Casserly also called for a progress report to be circulated to members when it becomes available.
Speaking on behalf of her motion, Cllr Casserly said, “It is important we keep telling the Department of Justice the importance of this.”
She added, “Sligo has been identified for a refuge. The lack of clarity is deeply concerning.”
Asking for an “immediate update”, Cllr Casserly praised the work being carried out the Domestic Violence Advocacy Service adding, “I would like to pay credit to everybody invovled with DVAS.”
Seconding the motion, Cllr Michael Clarke said, “A lot of people are trapped. This facility should be available to all citizens, men and women.”
