Updates sought from Council in relation to Collooney road crossing
The Sligo ChampionThe September meeting of the Sligo-Drumcliffe Municipal District heard calls for an update on the long awaited active travel scheme between Toberbride and Collooney.
Putting forward a motion on the matter, Cllr Thomas Healy said, “I want to see some movement on this. Is it an overpass or an underpass? 90% of people don’t mind so long as we get a safe path across the road.”
Supporting the motion, Cllr Thomas Walsh said, “The public see the money is being released but then everything moves at a snails’s pace. This Transport Infrastructure Ireland process is the problem.”
Cllr Marie Casserly also expressed her frustration at the time it is taking to complete the project saying, “It takes so long and the public start disengaging. It is costing the State money.”
Cllr Donal Gilroy suggested reducing the speed limit between the two roundabouts may help alleviate the difficulties.
"I think we should be looking at the speed between the two roundabouts. With 50kmh zones you can have raised platforms. On a roundabout the speed limit is 50kmh anyway.”
