Uisce Éireann may have to pay out after several motorists suffer burst tyres and wheel damage at pothole following works in Sligo town
The Sligo ChampionSligo County Council and Irish Water have carried out emergency repair works on a pothole in Ballisodare that saw over 20 motorists suffer damage to their cars.
There was utter chaos in the centre of Ballisodare on Wednesday after a pothole emerged following works by Uisce Eireann over the past couple of weeks to repair burst water mains.
It is understood one garage alone repaired damage to 15 vehicles as a result of the condition of the road in the wake of works.
Cllr Thomas Walsh expressed his anger at the situation which was caused after the road was dug up to repair water leaks.
“The number of tyres and wheels that were unnecessarily damaged as a direct result of this is a cause of concern, not to mention the safety issues that occurred for road users from yesterday to early this morning. People are rightly very annoyed about this and we must ensure a better system is put in place. This cannot happen again.”
Cllr Thomas Healy also expressed his frustration at the situation saying, “I have received a number of calls regarding a pothole which has caused a number of punctures at the roundabout near SuperValu in Ballisodare. This was work that was carried out by Uisce Éireann. I have contacted them to raised my concerns and I have contacted Sligo County Council as well.”
Cllr Healy has urged anyone impacted to reach out to him saying, “If you had your wheel punctured please contact me.”
Usice Eireann has been contacted for a response
