The action on the field may be getting closer to an end but for two Sligo GAA clubs there will be plenty of work to keep them going through the winter months as the County Council have announced that both Western Gaels and Coolaney Mullinabreena have been granted planning permission to carry out works at their respective homes.

Coolaney Mullinabreena’s Nace O’Dowd Park, Carrowclare, Lavagh, Ballymote is set for an upgrade as the club was successful in seeking permission for a new astro turf pitch and a new clubhouse.

Permission has been granted for the construction of a new astro pitch with associated floodlighting and fencing; construction of a new clubhouse consisting of four changing rooms, a general-purpose room, kitchen, toilets and ancillary accommodation which will be partially incorporated within and also include extensions and alterations to the existing covered multi-purpose area; proposed new waste water treatment system and percolation area and all associated site works.

Western Gaels were also successful with an application they lodged with Sligo County for works to be carried out at Culleens.

The club intend to change the orientation and location of the main pitch while also developing a smaller training pitch. Additionally lighting will be installed in the car park while there will be four floodlights on 12 metre high poles and eight floodlights on 18 metre high poles.

A walkway around the site will also be developed.
