Frustration and disappointment were expressed at the recent monthly meeting of Sligo County Council when a motion seeking an update on Sligo Primary Care Centres was debated with Cllr Thomas Walsh hitting out at the “very disappointing rate of progress.”

A motion tabled by Cllr Walsh calls on the HSE and Minister for Health to provide an update on the phase 3 build for Nazareth House, Tubbercurry Primary Care Centre and the business case for Collooney Primary Care Centre.

Addressing his fellow councillors, Cllr Walsh said, “Collooney is bursting at the seams in terms of capacity.”

He added, “Capacity is such in Nazareth House, it is very important phase 3 begins as quickly as possible.

"It is worrying that things are moving so slowly in terms of primary care. It is very frustrating for people on the ground and people working in the health service.”

The motion was supported by his Fine Gael colleague, Cllr Dara Mulvey who said, “It is not fair on the people of these communities. People are getting so fed up seeing things being tied up in red tape and taking years.

"It is not fair, it is taking years and years to roll out.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Cllr Donal Gilroy who said, “I fully support what you are proposing. There are so many things that can be done in Primary Care.”

It was agreed the motion be copied to the five Oireachtas members who represent the constituency.
